Here’s to Women! Exclusive Venue Celebrates International Women’s Day

Exclusive Venue Like A Boss

In honor of International Women’s Day, we’ve sat down with our colleagues to learn more about inspirations and challenges they’ve encountered in the luxury event industry, and how they embrace gender equity personally and professionally.

Empowering Women & Supporting Equality

Q: What is the key to empowering women? And what changes have you made to embrace gender and race equity?

A: We believe women should be celebrated every day. We strive to create an environment that encourages equity for all individuals, regardless of their gender. We ensure that women have equal opportunities at work to excel in their careers, and are able to support one another along the way. We do this by providing mentorship and networking opportunities to team members, as well as promoting an inclusive culture across the company.

Sophie Selby, Managing Director

Q: What motivates you throughout the day?

A: What motivates me daily at Exclusive Venue is the opportunity to connect people with unique and beautiful spaces, and to help create unforgettable events. Our team is passionate in delivering exceptional experiences to our clients, and it is the dedication to excellence that keeps us motivated every day.

Q: What is your proudest event in 2022?

A: Our proudest event last year was definitely the launch of our new flagship venue, which featured a stunning waterfront location with state-of-the-art facilities. It was a true testament to the hard work of our team, and we were thrilled to see the positive feedback from our guests.

Q: What changes are you expecting in the event industry for the next 5 years?

A: We expect to see significant changes, particularly around the use of technology with the rise of remote work. At Exclusive Venue, we adapt our business model to meet the evolving needs of our clients. We believe that by staying agile and responsive to trends, we can continue to thrive in this dynamic industry.

You Dream it, We Live it

Q: How can women embrace equity and support each other?

A: Always be diplomatic and understanding of others because you never know one’s story behind closed doors.

Q: How do you define woman empowerment in the workplace?

A: Never settle for the status quo. Always give it your best shot because as they say “No risk, No Champagne!” You will face challenges with clients or landlords, and strong competition in the market…but that’s all part of the experience. You can fall seven times, but you will get back up eight times stronger than ever.

Q: What is your proudest event in 2022?

A: We assisted a luxury watch brand in sourcing a unique venue for their VIC event. After several site visits, they chose The Vibe – the first Beach Club in Hong Kong set on the largest chartered catamaran. Needless to say, the event had a huge turnout and garnered great exposure to both the brand and the venue.

Q: What advice would you give to hosts on planning their first event?

A: Be creative by pairing unique venues with curated experiences to deliver an epic event. The key to event planning is time management and coordination between stakeholders of the event!

Catherine Leung, Marketing Director

Q: In your own words, what’s the key to embracing gender equity?

A: Working in a multicultural environment, it is essential we work together by embracing different perspectives and respecting everyone’s point of view. Coming from different industries and backgrounds, we all have so much to learn from the team, it is a great practice to voice our opinions during a brainstorming session so we can take the best from everyone’s ideas.

Q: What can we do to empower women, and support each other?

A: Say in a bouquet of flowers, roses and lilies blossom in their best possible way, yet they all complement each other, and by putting them together, it will certainly catch your attention. By appreciating the talents of each team member, we utilize their strength to achieve one common goal, so that we work as a team to create a harmonious and dynamic workplace.

Q: What advice would you give to hosts on planning their first event?

Location, location, location. Always find our first and foremost which is the most important aspect of your event, is it the views, the exclusivity, accessibility, or the ‘wow’ factor? These determine where you should host your event. At Exclusive Venue, we offer versatile venues that can cater to the different needs of private and corporate clients.

Q: What changes are you expecting in the events industry for the next 5 years?

Hybrid working, with a lot more dependency on technology, as borders are opening up and restrictions lifted, we’ll see more and more off-site meetings, networking cocktails, and wellness events.

Mei Leung, Account Manager

Q: What is your proudest achievement in 2022?

Joining a company that encourages creativity, innovation, and a team that continues to offer a strong support force. It is a working environment that allows you to grow personally and professionally.

Q: What advice would you give to hosts on planning their first event?

Finding the best-suited venue is important, seeing the venue in person makes a difference and allows you to visualize what is possible.

Q: What changes are you expecting in the workplace for the next 5 years?

I’m looking forward to discovering more venues in Hong Kong and beyond. As well as working with new and existing clients and finding luxury venues for exciting events.
